Diallo leaps over Shaq to win NBA slam-dunk contest as Harris shocks Steph Curry

Oklahoma City’s Hamidou Diallo place on a show within the NBA’s All-Star weekend to win the league’s annual slam dunk contest.

Diallo realized a dunk which is to be pointed out for years from the first round dunking over Shaquille O’Neal, hanging for the rim by his elbow, then tearing open his jersey to reveal a “Superman” shirt underneath. Along with his first dunk with the final round had the top of his head at almost rim level, putting him on top of things after his opponent, New York’s Dennis Smith Jr, would not complete a dunk in the first try of your final.

Smith then leapfrogged Miami’s Dwyane Wade and took a lob from Stephen Curry to offer himself a chance with his last dunk, receiving a perfect score in the judges and also a round of boos on the crowd, quite a lot of whom weren’t that impressed. That left Diallo because night’s final participant. Diallo got rapper Quavo away from the crowd, placed the ball in her hands, then grabbed getting he went airborne for any slam that sealed the title.

But by far the most remarkable story of the night came when Brooklyn’s unheralded Joe Harris held off most significant shooters of them all, Stephen Curry, to win the three-point contest. Harris made 12 straight shots while in the final round and went an incredible 15 for 18 on moneyballs – the shots really worth the most – to win the three-point title. He carried out with 26 on the possible 34 points from the final round, beating Curry by two. Sacramento’s Buddy Hield was third with 19 final-round points.

“Obviously, it’s incredible,” Harris said. “Steph is a good shooter in recent history. But, again, shooting over rack for the minute just isn’t suggestive of to be a better shooter than Steph Curry. I don’t want anybody to make it twisted at all.”

And the runner-up created a winner, too. Stephen Curry with the exceptional brother Seth Curry of the Portland Trail Blazers had a bet the spot that the winner of the three-point contest, whereby they had been both entrants, might need to pay money for tickets for the entire family in the rest of their careers.

Seth Curry didn’t leave the initial round. He explained that although his brother didn’t win, he’d settle. “It stands. They got that 27 in Round One that is certainly impressive,” Seth Curry said. “He deserved to win the bet and i also have to do a few things i had reached do.”

The Curry family experienced a good weekend in Charlotte. Father Dell Curry is usually a former Charlotte star, Steph is actually a three-time NBA champion, Seth is incorporated in the league and mother Sonya beat every one of them by developing an underhand half-court shot on Friday. “I would have loved the storybook ending Steph comes back home and wins as part of his native Charlotte,” Stephen Curry said. “That’s buying and selling websites been with them in my head anyway.”

The night started with the talents challenge, plus the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum edged Atlanta rookie Trae Young while in the final by designing a try from just in the evening midcourt stripe. Young was ahead of Tatum inside competition where players must execute some passes, a layup in addition to a three-pointer.Fearing that Young will make his three before Tatum could even 1 off, he allow it fly from about 50 feet. “I didn’t desire to give Trae an occasion,” Tatum said. “I honestly didn’t know I’d been planning to hit the shot, however i were required to give myself the opportunity and throw straight down there. It worked out for the most beneficial.”
