Kristaps Porzingis denies rape allegation, attorney for NBA star says
An attorney for Kristaps Porzingis acknowledged on Saturday which a woman has accused the NBA star of rape, but said the Dallas Mavericks forward “unequivocally” denies the allegation.
Lawyer Roland Riopelle said the claim was section of an extortion attempt that is being investigated from the FBI.
Citing unidentified police, the brand new York Post and other news outlets reported which a woman left for police on Thursday and said Porzingis raped her as part of his Manhattan apartment not too long ago since he was playing for that Knicks.
NYPD officials declined to comment.
Porzingis suffered a major knee injury inside of a game at Madison Square Garden up against the Milwaukee Bucks. That’s exactly what invited her to his luxury Manhattan apartment where she alleges she was sexually assaulted, the Post said the girl told police.
“We created a formal referral to federal police officers on 20 December 2018, based on the accuser’s extortionate demands,” Riopelle said inside a statement.
The attorney said the NBA was notified.
Porzingis, a 23-year-old from Latvia, was traded on the Mavericks in January. He is not required to play until next season.
